| Malika Garrett ' ' Born in Calcutta, India. ' ' BFA-Visual Arts. Wesleyan College, Macon, GA USA ' ' The Artist presently resides in Atlanta, GA.' ' The principal inspiration for my work is my memories of India. Most all of my paintings are directly influenced by the everyday experiences of people from all walks of life in India. The people in my work live in India under some hostile circumstances, but have the capacity for hospitality beyond most Westerner's imagination. Their beauty lies in their simplicity and courage. Their ability to share and love and their immense ability to survive despite incredibly difficult odds.. remain my true inspiration. Some of my paintings are about my home-Calcutta, where I have felt the most warmth and love. Thus, my work is about all these men, women and children who have learned to deal with difficult odds.'
